The Erlang runtime is in effect its own operating system and provides many of the features that other operating systems provide, so why do we need to run it on top of a Linux Kernel? Maxim and Victor wondered that and it lead them to create a new Erlang Runtime that can run direction on the XEN hypervisor. This reduces resource usage and can result in an extremely  fast startup and shutdown time. Eric Merritt and crew speak with them about how they built it, why and where it makes sense to use it.
